A Note from the President
Founded in 1985 by four rural hospitals, CMDI has grown significantly and today, serves 79 member-owner hospitals, their patients, and the communities which together, we are called to serve.
Since our inception 38 years ago, CMDI has been dedicated exclusively to the needs of our member-owner hospitals, bringing purchasing power, flexibility, and an unconditional commitment to service level responsiveness. At a time when capital preservation is critical for hospitals and health systems across the country, CMDI allows our member-owner hospitals to preserve that capital and deploy it for other strategic priorities. We provide turnkey and flexible operating arrangements to meet our members’ imaging needs, doing so within a cooperative model in which ALL profits are allocated back to member-owner hospitals instead of a third party financing entity.
We also know that member-owner hospitals cannot take care of critically ill patients when a scanner is down and that is why, regardless of time of day or day of week, we pride ourselves in ensuring our members are back up and running as soon as possible, no questions asked—and the hospital will never see a bill for expensive after-hours service calls as CMDI assumes that risk. Our model has also helped many hospitals acquire a level of imaging technology which they likely would not have been able to achieve on their own. Flexible upgrade paths, responsiveness, and a member-first commitment is what we do, all in the interest of the patients and communities our hospitals serve.
There is no cost to join CMDI and we serve not-for-profit hospitals exclusively (including city, county, and district ownership). Our membership is comprised of both independent and system-based hospitals. Members earn an equity interest in CMDI based upon their pro rata utilization of services and semi-annual equity distributions are made based upon that respective equity position.
CMDI has distributed more than $57.1 million back to our members in the past 5 years alone.
Finally, having served as a former hospital CEO for 23 years prior to assuming my role as President of CMDI, I have experienced firsthand the benefit and value which CMDI brings. Chad Cooper, MHA
President & CEO
Prior to assuming his current role in April 2018, Cooper spent 23 years as a rural hospital CEO. Most recently, Cooper served as the CEO of Riverwood Healthcare Center in Aitkin, MN where he led a $15 million clinic expansion project and various other strategic growth initiatives. Under Cooper's leadership Riverwood received multiple recognitions as a Top 100 CAH by the Chartis Center for Rural Health, as well as Top 20 CAH recognition from the NRHA. In 2017, Becker's Hospital Review named Cooper one of 60 Critical Access Hospital CEO's to Know. He has an undergraduate degree from Concordia College in Moorhead, MN and a master's degree in Healthcare Administration from the University of MN and is a member in the American College of Healthcare Executives.
Caity Eggen, MBA, SPHR, SHRM-SCP
Vice President of Operations
Eggen joined the CMDI team in October 2018, after spending 18 years in healthcare human resources as well as hospital operations. Most recently, Eggen served as the Chief HR Officer at Cuyuna Regional Medical Center in Crosby, MN where she coordinated and operationalized the installation of a new payroll, HR, timekeeping, and scheduling system, successfully negotiated union contracts, and supported the transition from governmental status to non-profit status. Prior to her CHRO role in Crosby, she worked for 15 years at Fairview Health Services and Allina Health Services where she served in various HR and operational leadership roles including oversight of HR and facilities departments across multiple hospitals as well as serving as the system leader for the HR Chapter of The Joint Commission. Eggen holds an undergraduate degree in Management with an emphasis in Human Resources from St. Cloud State University in St. Cloud, MN, and a master's degree in Business Administration from Concordia College in St. Paul, MN. Eggen also holds the certifications of Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) from HRCI and Senior-Certified Professional in Human Resources from the Society of Human Resources Management.
Holly Carter, RT (R) (MR)
MRI Supervisor/Business Development Manager
Carter is a registered MRI Technologist with over 22 years of experience, most recently with CMDI. In January 2022, she assumed part-time business development/account executive responsibilities focusing on expanding membership to non-profit hospitals outside of Minnesota. In October 2022, Carter also became the MRI Supervisor for all CMDI staffed hospitals. She has served several large and rural communities across the state on fixed and mobile technology, working on multiple platforms including Siemens, GE, and Philips. Carter holds an AAS degree in Radiologic Technology from Northland Community and Technical College in Grand Forks, ND.
